How to sell personalised products in Shopify
A name plate with the family name, a chopping board with a date on it: customers happily pay for something that is truly theirs. The hard part is usually not the sale, but everything after it. In this article you will read how to handle that smartly, so personalising stays fun for your customer and for you.
The problem: reworking files
If customers type their text into a comments field, the work only starts after the order. Typos, a photo that is too small, text that runs over the edge. Every order turns into handwork.
With a configurator the customer designs it themselves, within the limits you set. What lands in the cart is what you produce.
Three things you set up front
- The size and the safe zone. So text never runs over the cut line.
- The fonts that are allowed. Only fonts your machine engraves or prints well.
- The minimum photo quality. The editor warns the customer before they order.
From order to production
With every order you get a PDF at real size, with cut line and bleed. Want to look first? Put the product in the review queue and approve every design before it goes into the machine.
That way you stay in control, and your customer gets exactly the product they had in mind.
